On September 12th, the Barcroft community of Arlington, VA gathered for a heartwarming event that brought people together to support local families. Thanks to the efforts of Communities In Schools NOVA (CIS NOVA) and the incredible dedication of volunteers, we were able to feed over 300 families in need through Barcroft’s Mobile Market.

Our Site Coordinator, Mary Grace, went above and beyond to ensure that every family in the Barcroft area had the opportunity to enjoy a good meal. Her dedication to making this event successful was evident in the attention to detail and the extra care she provided to the families who came through the market.

Of course, this wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our volunteers, who showed up in full force! From setup to service, they handled every task with enthusiasm, making sure that everyone had a smooth and enjoyable experience. Their hard work not only made the event run seamlessly, but they also created an atmosphere of fun and community connection.

A special shoutout goes to Marcelo Ribera, Barcroft’s family liaison, who played a crucial role in spreading the word. With less than 24 hours’ notice, Marcelo’s quick action ensured that families in need were aware of this opportunity. Without his incredible effort, many families might not have known about the event, and we are deeply grateful for his commitment.

At CIS NOVA, events like the Barcroft Mobile Market are not just about providing essential resources to families—they’re about uplifting the entire community, including our students. By helping families meet their basic needs, we empower students to focus on their education and personal growth, knowing they have a network of support behind them. When students feel supported at home, they can thrive in school and beyond.

Barcroft’s Mobile Market is just one example of how CIS NOVA, in partnership with community members, continues to provide essential resources to children inside the classroom and beyond. Together, we empower students to learn and ensure families have the support they need.
