OUR MODEL

The Issue

Across the country, approximately 1 in 6 children under 18 live in poverty. These are disproportionately children of color who already struggle with issues of access and equity. Without community support, they are more at risk for missing school, dropping out and failing to earn a high school diploma. By helping our most vulnerable students stay in school and succeed in life, we are building stronger, healthier and more economically stable communities where every person is capable of reaching his or her greatest potential.

“It’s relationships, not programs, that change children.”

Our Solution

We work within public school systems, establishing relationships with Superintendents, Principals, Educators and Community Partners to address both individual student as well as school-wide needs.

We combine the art of one-on-one relationships with the science of proven, evidence-based programs, and mobilize community resources and proven programs to achieve results and remove barriers that keep students from succeeding in school and life.

Our evidence-based approach, adapted to meet each community’s unique needs, is the basis for our success. Many children face challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Through a school-based Site Coordinator, Communities In Schools strategically aligns and delivers needed resources so that students can focus on learning.
