While the big game approaches this Sunday, CIS of NOVA is focusing on providing students with a safe place for students to learn and a healthy start to the new semester at Wakefield high School.  While CIS provides tutoring throughout the week, one of the great resources that has existed at the school for several years is the Saturday School and Saturday Academy!

Every Saturday in the new Wakefield High School library, students, teachers and volunteers meet to tackle everything from Catcher in the Rye to Trigonometric proofs.  Teachers and tutors come together at 9am until 3pm, and support students that have fallen behind in their classes.   Although this may seem like a “punishment” for students, many state that this time is an opportunity that they need – and more importantly is a time they get to know the teachers at Wakefield much better.

While some students are assigned to attend Saturday School, several students also voluntarily attend the Saturday Academy – a time and space for students to use the technology and resources in the Wakefield library.  No matter the reason why students are present on Saturdays, all walk away from the opportunity feeling more prepared for the coming week, and more prepared to succeed in the classroom.
